Order of virginityUploader: Layne 8 days ago Subscribe 1305
By the time of the Second Vatican Council, the consecration of women existed entirely in conjunction with religious life. As such, consecrated virgins live out their daily lives as witnesses of this radical love of Christ — not as single persons, but as spouses of Christ. A woman living in the world who has never married or lived in open violation of chastity, and who by age, prudence, and good character is deemed suitable for dedicating herself to a life of chastity in the service of the Church and of her neighbor may petition her bishop to receive the Consecration. On this basis the different dimensions, physical, psychological and spiritual, are integrated and considered in their dynamic connection to the lived history of the person and in openness to the unceasing action of divine grace that directs, guides and invigorates her on the path of holiness. T he statement cites an earlier document, "Consecration to a life of virginity", which says that women becoming consecrated virgins must have "never married or lived in public or open violation of chastity". The Christian concept has a precedent in the Vestal Virgins of ancient Roman religion. I think I have been able to have many conversations about Christ and the Church because of that.
